Your Go-To Guide to Blonde Hair Colouring

Hey, I’m Claudia — a blonde and lived-in hair specialist.

I’ve been in the hair industry my whole life, and over the years I’ve built a serious amount of colour knowledge. Creating bright, expensive-looking blondes has become one of the most requested services lately, and honestly? I love it.

But with that comes a lot of questions…
Why does blonde sometimes go brassy?
Why does it look patchy?
And why does it feel dry even when it looks light?

That curiosity led me deep into the science of lifting hair — and after years of correcting blondes, I realised one thing very clearly:

Blonde is not just hair colour. Blonde is an art.

Why Blonde Can Go Wrong

I’ve seen it all — yellow tones, brassy ends, bleeding roots, and blends that just don’t melt. Most of the time, it comes down to lifting too quickly or using the wrong products.

Pushing hair to its limits without respecting the process almost always leads to damage without the blonde you’re dreaming of.

And here’s something I learnt early on:
A successful blonde doesn’t start with bleach — it starts with a consultation.

The Consultation Is Everything

This is where so many stylists rush… and where blondes often fail.

Every head of hair is different. Every client is different. Treating blonde like a “one formula fits all” situation is a recipe for disaster.

During my consultations, we talk through:

  • Inspo photos
    • What do you actually love about them?
    • Is the hair type similar to yours?
  • Your colour history
    • How many times has your hair been coloured?
    • Permanent dye? Layers on layers?
  • Strand testing
    • Especially if there’s a long colour history.
    • A strand test never lies — it tells us exactly how your hair will lift and how healthy it really is.
  • Lifestyle & maintenance
    • Do you have the time to care for blonde properly?
    • Are you open to a home-care routine?

Because let’s be honest — a bright blonde that feels like straw, with my name attached to it, is not the vibe.

Choosing the Right Blonde for You

Not every blonde suits every person — and that’s okay.

One of my favourite questions to ask is:

“What is it about this photo that you love?”

Nine times out of ten, clients are drawn to:

  • Brightness around the face
  • Soft, seamless blends
  • That lived-in, effortless feel

Often, a lived-in technique paired with the right cut looks far more flattering (and expensive) than an all-over blonde.

Skin tone matters too — the blonde you love on Pinterest might not be the blonde that loves you back.

Blonde = Maintenance (and That’s the Truth)

Blonde hair needs more love — there’s no way around it.

That means:

  • Conditioning treatments
  • Toners
  • Leave-in products

The healthier your hair, the better your toner will take — and the longer it will last. Over time, improved cuticle condition means more even toning and less fading.

Let’s Talk About Lifting

One thing I’ll always stand by:
Slower lifting creates better blondes.

I’ve seen hair lifted too quickly so many times, leaving brassy ends and uneven tones that are nearly impossible to fix in one session.

Here’s the rule:

  • Lower lift = more control
  • Slower process = cleaner blonde

High lifts work fast, but they strip the top pigment too quickly, leaving orange, copper, and brass underneath — and damaging the core of the hair.

And no, we’re not magicians.

Going from dark to blonde can take multiple sessions, sometimes months — unless you’re Kim Kardashian with unlimited time and budget.

Already blonde? You need very little lift. Over-processing blonde hair is one of the biggest mistakes I see.

This is why my one-to-one studio appointments matter. They allow time, control, and attention to detail — where hair health always comes first.

Toning, Masks & That Glossy Finish

Once lifting is complete, we focus on:

  • Custom toning based on your skin tone and goals
  • Deep conditioning masks to restore moisture
  • Closing the cuticle for shine and longevity

Toners can grab slightly more on the ends — totally normal — but if the hair is compromised, they’ll wash out quickly.

A good toner should last longer than a month, fading softly and evenly so you can maintain it at home.

My Blonde Must-Haves

  • O&M Leave-In
  • Coco & Eve Mask
  • K18
  • Hair Oil
  • Serum
  • Detox Treatment

My At-Home Blonde Routine

As a blonde myself, this is what I swear by:

  • Leave-in moisture daily
  • Nourishing shampoo
  • Hair oil every two weeks

Consistency is everything.

Final Thoughts

That glossy, “expensive” blonde you see all over Instagram?
It is achievable for you.

Finding the right stylist — someone who values honesty, connection, and hair health — makes all the difference. In my studio, creating the right colour palette for you is what makes blonde feel elevated, healthy, and effortless.

I’m proud to be recognised as a blonde specialist and to create bespoke blondes with lifestyle and long-term hair health always at the forefront.

Because beautiful blonde isn’t rushed — it’s intentional
